Frequently Asked Questions
Should I get a quartet, a trio, or a duo?
A quartet is the most versatile option - it can be as loud or soft as needed, there is a wide variety of music, and the full sound and range of notes give emotional moments more weight. For a crowd of over 100, we always recommend quartets. Our quartet repertoire also has the full range of music.
For a more budget option or a small event, a trio may be the right choice. A duo can be appropriate for small events in a small enclosed space (e.g. a small church), though music options may be more limited. Talk it through with us over email or a call and we can discuss which is the most suitable option for your needs.
I’d like a specific instrument combination that you haven’t mentioned
This may be possible depending on the combination. Some common ensemble combinations include: harp/violin, piano/violin, piano/cello. Other combinations may be a bit harder, whether it’s sourcing the music or a musician - give us a ring or email and we’ll let you know! For less common combinations, we may need to charge a bit more to source or arrange music.
If the ensemble you would like involves piano, please ensure the venue has a working piano, or let us know if that won’t be possible and we can bring a keyboard.
What happens if the event runs overtime?
Available musicians will try to stay until important moments are finished (e.g. the recessional for a wedding). There is a ten minute grace period past our booking time, after which it will be billed in 15 minute increments at our usual rates.
Do you need amplification?
Generally we won’t need amplification, especially if we’re playing as a quartet, as the sound of four instruments can really fill a room. Whether we will need mics or not depends on the type of venue, the weather conditions, the number of attendees, the number of players, and whether we’re just background music or a main event.
For an attendee size below 100 in a smaller space where the music needs to be heard (e.g. for wedding ceremonies), a quartet will not need mics. A duo in an open windy space playing to a crowd of over 100 for the same type of event may need mics.
For background music we will not need mics.
If you are hiring us to perform a concert for a crowd over 100 people, we may need to be miked depending on the venue and the type of music. For smaller venues, sometimes the venue or the DJ will be able to set up a mic in front of us.
Get in touch with us and we’ll advise you on whether mics will be needed for your event.
Do you have a wedding markup?
No hidden fees or wedding markups - we have a flat rate for all our events.
However, extra fees may apply for:
. Travel outside of the Brisbane and Gold Coast area
. Costuming (e.g. if you would like us to wear differently-coloured formal clothing, or would like us to dress up for a theme)
. Music requests. If your music request is not in our song list, we provide two free arrangements. All further arrangements or music sourcing cost $50 per arrangement.
. If we need to provide our own amplification
. If you need us to come to the wedding rehearsal
. Hiring of other equipment (e.g. electric instruments)
Do you play electric instruments?
We usually play acoustically - there are effects we can create on acoustic instruments to imitate the feel of a lot of electronic sounds. If you would like us to play electric instruments for your event or recording, we can do that as well (though a hiring fee for instruments and amplification applies, unless you are supplying them)
My [friend/relative] wants to sing/play a song with you, is that possible?
Of course! Put us in contact and we’ll coordinate the music.
(please allow a few days for this - if it’s an on-the-day request we may not be able to do it, or only do it in a basic way, as we have to distribute all the notes and roles of a band to multiple players on the fly. This is a case of easy on one instrument but less easy on many)
What happens if one of you are sick or can’t make it on the day?
We will organise an equally professional and experienced player to sub in. We play with a lot of top professionals in the state so we have a solid pool of colleagues to ask!
Booking requirements
. Please ask the venue to provide armless chairs for the players. If the event is outdoors, please organise a space in the shade, such as beneath a large tree or under a gazebo. If it’s a rainy day, we must be undercover - our instruments and amplification are very fragile to the elements, so we appreciate your understanding. If it’s not possible to fit us in a space with chairs (about 2.5m x 2.5m for a quartet), three of us can play standing up, provided the playing time is only an hour.
. Your deposit (part of the fee) secures your booking date. Your booking date will be held for you for one week (or a timeframe that you have discussed with us) after the booking agreement is sent. A receipt will be emailed to you at the deposit and the full payment stages. Should you need to postpone your date, you will not lose your deposit so long as you book with us again. Please notify us by email of any EFT payments.
. Please organise food for each player if we are booked for 3 hours or over.
. Music requests should be finalised minimum 7 days prior to the event.
Thank you!
